Friday Quick Takes

I have some longer posts in the works that aren’t ready yet, so let’s do another quick takes.

one. I’ve been telling different friends about the CSA box that we’ve been getting, and I was surprised that not everyone knows what a CSA is. I guess it makes sense if you don’t daydream of living on a farm, like yours truly. 😉 CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and basically it means investing in a local farm through buying their produce directly from them. Most CSAs require you to pay for half or a full year, although the one we do allows you to do week to week. I’ve been loving ours, High Ground Organics. I chose a pick-up location close to Gianna’s school so it’s been super easy to pick up our crate once a week, every other week in the late fall/winter. This week we got broccoli, carrots, kale, chiogga beets, romanesco, kale, turnips and leeks.

two. Whole Foods is having a 25% sale (3/21-3/27) off all their skin and beauty products! I’ve been following Sarah James’ Instagram stories with some product recommendations, apparently today there’s a $20 beauty bag you can pick up with tons of different green beauty samples. This morning I seriously considered carting all 4 kids over to grab one, but… I decided against it. I am hoping to make a trip in the next few days to browse their moisturizers and mascaras.

three. This afternoon’s baking: this bread and these muffins.

four. I recently started reading Pachinko, written by a Korean-American author. I’m only a few chapters in, but I’m captivated. I feel like I know the characters from stories my mom has told me of Korea, and the voice of the author is familiar. I look forward to reading it every night.

five. These watering cans, swoon.

six. My friend Sarah recently started a blog, and I’ve been loving it. Her writing is honest and real as she shares about motherhood and faith. This post really hit me in where I’m at and has continued to come to mind in the last few weeks.

seven. It’s the last week of Lent, the 40 day stretch in the church calendar where Christians are invited to reflect and remember a God who came as man and experienced human suffering, pain, injustice, and rejection. Being present to Lent, as a mom of young kids, has been challenging, and this time with a really hard newborn, I especially feel not with it. Pat shared this post with me, “Running on Fumes During Lent,” and wow, did it really capture what I’ve been feeling lately while also giving some helpful nudges for how to respond. I highly recommend it for other parents out there with little ones.
