Friday Quick Takes (vol. 16)

These are going to be 7, very quick takes because I’m oh, so tired. Such is life when you run around with two tiny people.

one. As I write this, I’m eating a piece of toast, slathered with peanut butter (creamy, unsalted), and drizzled with honey. I’ve had a peanut butter obsession for a while now… on toast, as classic PBJ, on a banana. Sometimes I feel like I have more cravings and eat more as a nursing mama than when I’m pregnant! Once my current jar of peanut butter runs out, I’m thinking about making my own. From what I’m read, all it involves is whirling peanuts up in a food processor! I think I can handle that.

two. Speaking of food, I’m obsessed with a few new cookbooks I picked up at the library this weekend. Supernatural Everyday, Good to the Grain, and Plenty. The first two center around cooking with whole grains and the last is all about vegetables. I’m inspired to expand our little panty to include spelt flour, and I now have about billion things I want to bake, involving lots of chocolate.

three. A different type of recipe I’m looking at is one for laundry detergent! It’s really easy, just 3 ingredients, one of which is a product called Borax. Is it just me, or does anyone else think of Borat when you read that? I’ll forever be thinking of Sascha Baron Cohen every time I wash my clothes. Sigh.

four. Okay, one more recipe. One of my besties is getting married soon and the bridal shower is this weekend. I’m planning to bring this but sub out the basil for parsley and thyme from my garden. Let’s hope it’s tasty, Ina has never let me down yet.

five. On Monday, I’m flying up to Washington with Gianna and Caleb, on my own. I’m a little nervous! I’m planning to bring lots of tasty treats to keep Gianna happy, and I’m hoping to get a little help from random strangers. If the flight is horrible, at least we can look forward to a week with my mom, who is most definitely going to be spoiling my little ones and ordering me to take naps.

six. Did I mention we’re flying in on my mom’s birthday? I’m planning to have Gianna come out of the airport with a few of these Equal Exchange chocolate bars for her in hand. I got them at Whole Foods but also saw them recently at a local cafe. They’re fair trade and very delicious.

seven. Caleb is on the verge of crawling!! He’s army crawling his way around these days, but any day now he’s really going to take off. I’m excited but afraid that he’s going to destroy our house.
