First Birthday Party

Today my baby girl turns 1 year old. She is no longer “zero,” as all her talking little friends have been asking me.

I can’t believe it. These last few weeks, I’ve been having flashbacks of her birth day. My water breaking around 11PM at the end of a long day. Contractions starting around 12:30AM. An all night labor and our baby coming into the world at 8:46 in the morning. I remember hearing my baby cry and holding her for the first time. Seeing her gaze at me was one of the most amazing thing I have ever experienced.

Since then, she has been our absolute joy. She’s learned how to use her fingers to explore the world and turn pages of books, she has 2 little teeth that help her savor all the new foods she is trying, she’s one of the fastest little crawlers ever, with only a slight interest in walking.

This last weekend we celebrated her first birthday surrounded by close family and friends. At the end of the day, I was overwhelmed by how many people love her so much. We definitely went all out for Gianna’s party. My mom made the most amazing spread of Korean food, our friend Charlene crafted the cutest cake pops and pinwheels decorations, my aunt bought her a hanbok (Korean traditional dress) while on a trip to Korea, and I managed to whip up some first birthday carrot cake cupcakes and sewed some pink fabric flags.

More to come with recipes and how-to’s from a week of cooking and party prepping with my mom, but until then, I hope you enjoy this little photo preview.
